The mammalian-like teeth (molars, incisors and canines) of the cynodonts enabled them to eat almost anything - small lizards, eggs, roots, foliage and perhaps even their own offspring, should circumstances have necessitated such an action. They almost certainly scavenged carrion left by larger carnivores, for food of any kind was not, at this time, abundant enough for animals to be choosy.
